THE ROLE AND PLACE OF NATURE IN THE NOVEL OF MURASAKI SHIKIBU "GENJI MONOGATARI"

Abstract

This article examines the conceptual and cultural ideas about "nature" in the Heian period using the example of the novel by Murasaki Shikibu "Genji Monogatari", in which the role of nature is particularly clearly determined.

Murasaki Shikibu's novel was written during the Heian era, a historical period from 794-1185, when Japanese culture reached one of the peak of its development. The Heian era is rightfully considered the "golden age" of Japanese culture, which laid the foundations for the culture and worldview of the Japanese people. A distinctive feature of the novel is the portrayal of a real person in the context of his time, and not the hero of legends and traditions. In other words, Genji Monogatari reflects medieval society in its exclusivity.
